Detection of Spotted-winged Drosophila (Diptera: Drosophilidae) Infestations in Blueberry Fruits1

چکیده

Spotted-winged drosophila, Drosophila suzukii Matsumura (Diptera: Drosophilidae), has become a significant pest of small and stone fruit. Unlike most species, it tends to infest healthy, intact ripe fruit, as opposed rotting or overripe fruit (Mitsui et al. 2006, Popul. Ecol. 48:233–237; Asplen 2015, J. Pest Sci. 88:469–494). drosophila adults are typically detected in the field using baited traps. This is useful helping growers decide when apply insecticides (Ebbenga 2022, Entomol. 57: 516–529), but methods also needed estimate actual infestation levels. Spectral imaging may provide nondestructive alternative extraction larvae could information on status single Such been tested for insect pests other than D. suzukii. For example, Peshlov (2009, Near Infrared Spectrosc. 17:203–212) used near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) detect wild blueberries (Vaccinium) by blueberry maggot, Rhagoletis mendax Curran Tephritidae). By measuring spectra live larva subtracting from an infested blueberry, they demonstrated that NIR signal recorded was “associated chemical changes blueberries.” Detectable differences between occurred approximately 750 1300 nm, with differential at 600 nm. Curative activity contributes to control of spotted-wing drosophila (Diptera: Drosophilidae) and blueberry maggot (Diptera: Tephritidae) in highbush blueberry

Semi-field experiments were used to compare the curative activity of insecticides on spotted-wing drosophila (Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura) (Diptera: Drosophilidae)) and blueberry maggot (Rhagoletis mendax Curran (Diptera: Tephritidae)) in blueberry fruit. The organophosphate phosmet, the spinosyn spinetoram, and neonicotinoids imidacloprid, acetamiprid, and thiamethoxam showed significant let...

Associations of yeasts with spotted-wing Drosophila (Drosophila suzukii; Diptera: Drosophilidae) in cherries and raspberries.

A rich history of investigation documents various Drosophila-yeast mutualisms, suggesting that Drosophila suzukii similarly has an association with a specific yeast species or community. To discover candidate yeast species, yeasts were isolated from larval frass, adult midguts, and fruit hosts of D. suzukii. Terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (TRFLP) technology and decimal diluti...

Toxicological Evaluation of a New Lepidopteran Insecticide, Flubendiamide, in Non-Target Drosophila melanogaster Meigen (Diptera: Drosophilidae)

Background: Flubendiamide, comparatively a new pesticide designed to eradicate lepidopteran insect pests is known to have low risk to birds, mammals, fish, algae, honey bees, non-target arthropods, earthworms, soil macro- and micro-organisms, non-target plants as well as sewage treatment organisms; however, the risk assessment for aquatic invertebrates from metabolite could not be finalized wit...

Alightment of Spotted Wing Drosophila (Diptera: Drosophilidae) on Odorless Disks Varying in Color.

Methods for trapping spotted wing drosophila, Drosophila suzukii (Matsmura) (Diptera: Drosophilidae), have not yet been optimized for detecting this devastating pest of soft-skinned fruits. Here, we report outcomes of choice and no-choice laboratory bioassays quantifying the rates of spotted wing drosophila alightment on 5-cm-diameter sticky disks of various colors, but no fruit odors. Red, pur...
